The following paper was written for the purpose of vindicating Presbyterian doctrine* as it concerns its essential application under various circumstances, and as well to expose certain movements (from the past and present) which, in calculated form, sought to undermine the same. The primary objective was to highlight such things as were agreeable to the Divine Word - whether by express commandment, good and necessary consequence, or authoritative example - and as well to eliminate certain objections (gross calumnies, in many cases) that have been propagated among those making, or having in the past made, a Reformed Presbyterian or Covenanter profession.

"He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls." - Proverbs 25:28

*The views expressed in this paper should not be interpreted as if there were an unqualified acceptance of the men associated with the controversy in question (men in office in particular). Again, the primary purpose was to highlight only such things as were agreeable to the Word of God as they were applied within those circumstances, being distinguished from the men themselves. This not only applies to the period of time in which the paper was written, but as well under the current circumstances wherein men act individually, or otherwise (if it should come to pass).
